Team Gibson came 4th at the Woman’s Match Racing World Championships. The team, Jo Riley (bow), Rachel Larman (trim), Barbara Watson (main) and Josie Gibson (helm), sponsored by Raffiny, competed in the Woman’s Match Racing World Championships, St Quay, France. Ranked 12th in the world going into the event they were an outsider but thanks to some sponsorship this year they have been able to do some good training against other top sailors from Southampton.
In the first round robin the team sailed fast and were 2nd just behind world number one and local St Quay sailor, Claire Leroy. Team Gibson won their quarter final which meant sailing Katie Spitill’s team in the semis. Unfortunately, after being 2-0 up against Spitill, Team Gibson were defeated and finished fourth. The whole team are really pleased with the performance and are hoping for an invite to the World Championships next year which will be in Auckland, NZ. The next event will be an RYA run National Qualifier on the 1-2nd September.
“I would like to thank Raffiny for the support they have given the team. We feel much more part of a team in our kit and really stand out from the crowd!”
